Georeferenced map on Macerata indicator radius (distance in km) shows detected lightning, separate type, in the last 90 minutes. The detection efficiency of the system is equal to (85 ± 6)% for CG lightning type and (20 ± 5)% for IC lightning.
The detection efficiency decreases (especially for lightning IC) with increasing distance from the site of lightning detection.
The efficiency of identifying lightning CG or IC ranges from 70% to 90% (the difference between CG + and CI - and 'less accurate).

An electrical discharge emits radio waves in a wide range of frequencies. Just before lightning from cloud to ground through a high current ion channel from the potential difference, current flow causes emissions of radio waves in the range of the most powerful VLF (very low frequency) and IOE 3 kHz to 30 kHz. A key advantage of the low frequencies in contrast to higher frequencies is the ability to propagate these signals for thousands of miles using the reflective layer between the ionosphere and the ground. Their reception is thus able to detect even far away from the storms
